Four contemporary townhomes with private parking space. 2005
Placing new contemporary urban townhomes within a vibrant historic district created a number of complex challenges. All in-fill structures are required to follow specific Code requirements that are meant to preserve the qualities of the historic district.
The design was shaped by the vernacular early modern traditions of the district. The clarity and minimalist approach established fits within the context of the neighborhood without attracting attention to itself.
The east façade is punctuated by a transparent geometry, which is protected by a metal louver system that allows controlled natural light into the units as well as providing privacy for its occupants. The scale of the façade appears to reduce the massing to a 2-story level, therefore maintaining the existing dynamics of the street.
